Epilogue

The Quaker Peace Testimony is one of a number of testimonies that form the bedrock of the practice to which Quakers aspire, informed by a recognition of the spirit of God that resides in every person. It encompasses far more than non-engagement in military activities and extends to recognising and removing the causes of war and harmful conflict. As such it is an evolving concept, particularly as it applies to addressing social injustice and deprivation and the threats to the environment and ecosphere. In more recent times Quakers have played an important role in the establishment of organisations such as Amnesty International, Greenpeace and Oxfam, each of which is engaged in activities directed to one or more of these contemporary challenges. These and other emerging issues are matters that Quakers will, guided by the Spirit, need to deal with individually and collectively, now and in the future.
